Sad news on this Saturday, the artist Mikaben who participated in the Carimi concert in Paris died after having a heart attack on stage just after his performance. We have a thought for all the fans and especially for his family and colleagues.
This was to be the reunion concert. Six years after their separation, the members of Carimi go back on stage to celebrate the twenty years of the legendary Haitian group. But the evening turned tragic. Mikaben, invited to sing by Camini, had just performed his hit “Ou Pati” in front of 10 people, when he felt unwell leaving the stage. Rescuers arrived quickly on the spot but were unable to resuscitate the singer.
MikaBen used to participate in the performances of the group before his separation. His illness and then his death caused a wave of strong emotion in the West Indian world and beyond.
On April 6, 2018, the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr Marie Greta Roy Clement, named singer Michael Benjamin a “Goodwill Ambassador for Health”.
The versatile young artist, born in 1981 in Port-au-Prince and son of the famous singer Lionel Benjamin, plays piano, guitar, bass and drums.
