Kamaru Usman loses UFC welterweight title to Leon Edwards

A historic defeat. Kamaru Usman, undefeated UFC welterweight world champion in 15 fights, was beaten this Saturday August 20 by Leon Edwards, during UFC 278 which took place in Salt Lake City, Utah (United States) .

It had been nine years since Usman had known the taste of defeat, he who was only playing his second professional fight. Inevitably, this unexpected setback caused an immense shock wave on the circuit, with many stars shocked by the outcome of this title-fight. The Nigerian admitted his mistakes on Twitter, and has already looked to the future with ambition.

A few seconds later, it was a fervent supporter of the Nigerian who also spoke on Twitter, namely Francis Ngannou. The Cameroonian quickly wanted to support the fallen champion: “keep your head up my brother, these kinds of bad things happen. I like you". Before properly hailing the Briton's victory: “As sad as I may be, I cannot but be happy for Leon Edwards, knowing where he comes from and what he went through to get here . Congratulation !"

Usman remained on a winning streak of five title defenses against Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns. For his part, Edwards, the new welterweight king, extends his unbeaten streak, his last defeat now dating back to December 2015.
