The invasion of Ukraine by Russia, widely condemned, has created a humanitarian crisis in Eastern Europe. Indeed, several reports have reported African immigrants unfairly treated at Ukraine's borders , with a “Ukrainians first” policy preventing them from boarding trains and crossing into neighboring countries. Thousands of African students live in Ukraine to study medicine and other technical subjects at affordable prices.
After hearing about the racist discrimination raging at Ukraine's borders, Young Thug left a message via his Instagram story this Sunday, February 27, to offer his support to the African population stranded at the Ukrainian borders, while calling on his fellow rappers to participate.
“If some of my rap bros are here, I'm ready to help Africans get out of Ukraine, but I feel [..] they're not letting us through,” he wrote. “Who holds the information on these movements, please contact me as soon as possible, I am ready.”
Even if it seems unlikely that the authorities will hear his revolt, it is hoped that the situation for all civilians trying to flee the war will quickly improve.
According to the United Nations, at least 102 Ukrainian civilians were killed since Russia launched its invasion and 304 others have been injured. However, there are fears that the actual figure is "significantly higher". Another 422 fled the country.
