Astor's real name Terence wilson whose versatility made him a key member of the British group UB40, died in London on November 6 at the age of 64.
His death was confirmed on the group's official Twitter site.
Astro, is the second classically formed member of the group to die in three months. Saxophonist Brian Travers died of cancer in August at the age of 62.
Born in Birmingham in the British Midlands of West Indian parents, Astro was a trumpeter, percussionist and singer. He has performed on UB40's biggest hits, including Red Red Wine, I Got you Babe and The Way You do The Things you Do.
He was the deejay part for Red Red Wine, a world number one for UB40 in 1983.
He left UB40 in 2013 and joined the separatist group, UB40 with Ali, Astro and Mickey (Vertu).
UB40 split up following disagreements between Ali Campbell and his brother Robin, another founding member.
In May, Ali Campbell and Astro revisited the best moment of UB40 by launching the vegan and organic wine Red Red Wine through UK company Eminent Life.
Astro wrote about the company on the foodtribe.com website.
“We enjoyed the smoother, richer Merlot, topped with leafy Cabernet and a hint of vanilla oak. Red Red wine has a good balance and is really pleasant to drink. Like our music, we are always looking for balance and harmony. Red Red Wine has both, ”he said.
One of the last big musical projects Astro performed on was A Real Labor of Love, a 16-song album starring Campbell and Virtue that contained covers of popular Jamaican songs, including She Loves Me Now by Beres Hammond; Dennis Brown's Here I Come and How Can I Leave; JC Lodge's telephone love; Under Me Sleng Teng by Wayne Smith; Ken Boothe walks away; and the rumors of Gregory Isaacs.
