Winnie Harlow attends the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards

Winnie Harlow was among the celebrities who strutted outside Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, NY for the 2021 MTV Music Awards tonight.

Born Chantelle Whitney Brown-Young, Harlow rose to prominence in 2014 as a contestant on the 21st cycle of American television series America's Next Top Model.

Harlow was diagnosed with vitiligo, a chronic skin condition characterized by depigmentation of parts of the skin, when she was four years old. She was bullied by other children and was reportedly called "cow, zebra, and all kinds of other derogatory slurs" throughout her childhood by black and white students.

The verbal harassment caused her to change schools several times and drop out of high school, after which she contemplated suicide. Harlow was discovered by America's Next Top Model host Tyra Banks on Instagram, and later became one of 14 21st Round finalists in 2014. She was the only Canadian to perform on ANTM, but was eliminated in the second week of the finals.

After her elimination from America's Next Top Model, Harlow modeled for Spanish clothing brand Desigual and became its official brand representative. In September 2014, she walked and closed for clothing brand Ashish for its Spring/Summer 2015 collection at London Fashion Week.

In 2015, Harlow posed for Italian clothing brand Diesel for their Spring/Summer 2015 campaign, which was shot by British fashion photographer Nick Knight. She has posed for the Spanish and Italian editions of Glamor magazine and was featured in the August/September 2015 issue of Complex magazine.

Harlow was also featured in the August 2015 issue of Cosmopolitan. She was featured on the Vogue Italia website in an interview and accompanying photo shoot. In August 2015, Harlow shot the cover and an accompanying op-ed in the September issue of Ebony magazine, where she appeared alongside former America's Next Top Model contestant Fatima Siad.

In 2016, Harlow was featured in an advertisement for Sprite and in a campaign for Swarovski. The same year she was chosen as one of the BBC's 100 Women of 2018, she posed at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Harlow has appeared in advertising campaigns for Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Desigual, Diesel, Swarovski, Steve Madden, Nike, Puma, MAC and Victoria's Secret.
