Kanye West has officially declared himself (on Twitter) a candidate for President of the United States.

The rapper and producer announced his candidacy for the US presidential election next November on Saturday.

“We must now fulfill America's promise by trusting God, unifying our visions, and building our future. I am running for President of the United States! # 2020VISION, ”Kanye West tweeted.

As the Bloomberg news agency explains, if Kanye West is “serious” he will face near insurmountable obstacles for most candidates such as starting a campaign from zero in July in election year without no support for the infrastructure of an existing party… “For the moment, Kanye West does not appear to have filled out a form with the Federal Election Commission,” according to Bloomberg.

In order to appear on the ballot as an independent candidate, West would have to collect a certain number of signatures and register in the states within a particular time frame. The deadline has already passed in some major states but the music star would still technically have time to file in many others.
