French activist Assa Traore has been named the recipient of the BET International Global 2020 by BET International Networks.
Traoré will receive the award at the 20th anniversary of the BET Awards on June 28 at 20 p.m. EST.
The Global Good Award is the recognition by BET International of public figures who use their platform for social responsibility and kindness while demonstrating a commitment to the well-being of the global black community.
Traoré joins former Global Good Prize winners including artist and philanthropist Akon and the British activist Chakabars .
“This award is recognition of four years of struggle. I'm excited because I said “they won't erase my little brother's name.” Assa told BET. “This award is a way to make its name resonate even louder. My brother's name will be associated with the history of BET. By name and BET, we continue to fight for our black brothers all over the world. "
In 2016, Assa Traoré's brother Adama has suffocated to death in a police station on his 24th birthday. This led the French activist to seek justice and the truth to find out what happened to her brother by creating "Justice for Adama".
The death of his brother has been compared to the recent murder of George floyd by police in Minneapolis, which not only sparked protests across the country, but internationally, including France.
