PORTRAIT - TEDDY RINER

Teddy Riner is a sportsman Guadeloupe born in 1989 in Abymes. French judoka, he has a record of ten world championship titles, Olympic champion in London in 2012 as well as in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
He was born in Guadeloupe before coming to France very young with his family where they settled in the Chapelle district in Paris. He was teased as a child because of his large size and started playing sports at the age of five when his parents decided to enroll him in a gym where he discovered judo. He discovered a real passion for judo and decided to devote himself entirely to it at the age of thirteen. He subsequently joined, despite his young age but thanks to his very impressive physique, INSEP then the elite sector of national judo. He participated with the French national team in his first European championship in 2005 where he obtained a bronze medal. 

In 2007, at 18 years He becomes European Judoka Champion and becomes the first heavyweight judoka to win the title since 1994 as well as the youngest judoka in history to win it. The same year he became world champion in Judoka at only eighteen years old and once again became the youngest man to win this title.
Over the years, Teddy won ten world championship titles, a record that made him a true icon of French judo. All these victories allow it to establish partnerships with prestigious brands and becomes one of the highest paid athletes with revenues exceeding 1,5 million euros in 2012.

On the personal side, the athlete is the father of a little boy born in 2014 and a little girl born in 2018 with his partner Luthna Plocus.
