“I decided to retire today from the sport formerly known as mixed martial arts,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
“I wish my former colleagues the best for their upcoming competitions,” he continues.
He had already announced his retirement in 2016, before returning to the ring a few months later for his fights against Nate Diaz (a fight he won) and Mayweather (a loss in 10e round).
McGregor, nicknamed "The Notorious" (The Famous) has long been the figurehead of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), the main organizer of MMA fights in the United States. He held the UFC featherweight title from 2015 to 2016 and lightweight from 2016 to 2018.
